Grand Barossa Chateau Tanunda Chardonnay

Rating: 93

Chateau Tanunda was established in 1890 and is the site of the very first vines planted in the Barossa in the 1840’s. The Chateau is a heritage icon, the grand buildings, magnificent gardens and vineyards are owned by the Geber family who continue a century old tradition of fine winemaking. Lifted aromas of nectarine, peach and pear are accompanied by citrus fruits on the palate with an extensive finish framed by subtle vanilla 0tes and a hint of spice from maturation with French oak. Picked early in the morning, the fruit was delivered cool to the winery. Gentle pressing to minimise phe0lics and cold settling preceeded a long, cool fermentation averaging 14C. A small portion (5%) of the Chardonnay was fermented in seasoned French oak to give added complexity and structure to the wine.
